Rose cares about kids
I want to express my support for Harold Heischober's re-election to the City Council. I have watched Mr. Heischober's participation in the city's government over many years and have great respect for his contributions.
His experience and maturity have been a real asset. He is a calming voice of moderation when needed and a leader at all times. I encourage other citizens to vote for Mr. Heischober.

Rose cares about kids
I am supporting Neil Rose for one of the At-large four-year seats on the School Board.
Having worked many long hours over the past few years in our Kiwanis Club, Neil has been tireless in his efforts to raise funds for children's causes such as Edmarc Hospice, Boys and Girls Clubs, Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters, Old Dominion University Children's Center and others.
Neil and his wife, Gina, have worked hard to improve our public schools not only for their three sons, but for all children in our city. Neil Rose will work well with other board members and the community to continually review and improve our public schools.

Should we believe Dean?
I'm amused whenever I read a Robert Dean for Council ad. He always says he's for the Comprehensive Plan, like he's for responsible government.
I'm the small guy. Last September, I had a small rezoning proposal before City Council completely in accord with the Comprehensive Plan. Fortunately, council passed it, but Dean led the opposition!
Then two months later the big guys arrive, a large well-known local developer with deep pockets. The developer wanted to increase density on a large tract many times beyond what the Comprehensive Plan calls for and in direct violation of it. Their property, Upton Estates, is two miles from mine in Ocean Lakes.
Guess who leads the way for the big developers - Robert Dean.
Makes you wonder why anyone should believe him.

Board deserves better
I would like to express my sincere appreciation to each of the first-elected School Board members. It is an unfortunate ``scenario'' (Charlise Lyles commentary, March 16 Virginian-Pilot) that has surfaced in recent months only to shed a dark cloud of negative criticism on the job they tried to do.
Positively speaking, what about the implementation of school uniforms in an effort to combat negative peer pressure? Or how about the Kemps Landing Magnet program developed to accommodate the academically challenged and gifted students? Also on the list is the at-risk preschool program for those who have yet to join the ranks of the student population.
I cannot believe that the ``scapegoat seven'' had a hidden financial agenda when they took over in July 1994. I believe they were and still are people of integrity, intelligence and compassion for our children and our community. And should any one of them decide to run for political office again, I would gladly cast my vote in their favor. Hang tough Tim Jackson and Ferdinand Tolentino, I'm rooting for you!
