Leondious Burfoot Bateman Jr., 73, of 1144 Weeksville Road, died in Albemarle Hospital on Friday, April 26, 1996. Born in Pasquotank County, N.C., he was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army Air Corp. He was a retired division manager for Carolina Trailways-Delmarva Division, a member of Atlantic Masonic Lodge (NU)2 AF&AM Norfolk, American Legion Post 327 and Moose Lodge (NU)39 Norfolk.
Mr. Bateman Jr. was the husband of Doris Elizabeth Worrell Bateman of the residence and son of the late Leondious Burfoot Bateman Sr. and Margaret Corbett Bateman.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two stepsons, Robert L. Williams Jr. and Roderick G. Williams, both of McMurray, Pa.; four sisters, Beulah B. James, Martha Bateman and Dorothy B. Pritchard, all of Elizabeth City, and Marjorie B. Freeman of Grandy, N.C.; a brother, Kenneth A. Bateman of Elizabeth City; and four step-grandchildren.
A graveside service with military honors will be Monday, April 29, at 2 p.m. in Old Hollywood Cemetery, with the Rev. Steve Formo officiating, assisted by the Rev. Glen Greenway. The family will be at the residence of his sister, Martha Bateman, 608 Laura Lee St., Elizabeth City. Twiford's Memorial Chapel, Elizabeth City, is in charge of arrangements.
