Merle Marlow Waters, 69, of the 200 block of Elysian Drive, died April 18, 1996, of natural causes.
A native of Mooresville, Mrs. Waters was a retired payroll supervisor for Reeves Brothers, Cornelius, N.C. She was a member of Williamson Chapel United Methodist Church, Lake Norman, N.C. She was president of Mooresville Women's Club and past president of Mooresville Business Professional Women.
She is survived by her husband, Claude H. Waters, formerly of Portsmouth; a son, Gary W. Waters, sheriff of Portsmouth; two sisters, Jane M. Cagle and Hazel M. Neef; granddaughter, Donna Marie Waters; and daughter-in-law, Jane.
She was predeceased by a son, Chester A. Waters.
A funeral was held Saturday in Mooresville. Memorial donations may be made to the Portsmouth Chapter of the American Red Cross or Biltmore Baptist Church in Portsmouth. Cavin Funeral Home, Mooresville, is in charge of arrangements.
