ALFRED B. BARRETT

Alfred B. Barrett, known as ``A.B.,'' 72, of the 1200 block of Bunsen Ct., died April 25, 1996, at his residence.

He was born in Pitt County, N.C., and was a stevedore for Norfolk Naval Supply Center for 30 years and had been retired 16 years. He had an honorable discharge from the U.S. Army in 1946 and was a member of Second Calvary Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Ida Barrett; a daughter, Shirley Gardner of Norfolk; sons Henry Barrett, of Lanham, M.D., Allen T. Barrett of Norfolk; his father, Alfred Barrett of Farmville, N.C.; two sisters, Christine Knooch of Buffalo, N.Y., Gladys Johnson of Spring Hope, N.C.; a brother, Stacey Barrett of Farmville, N.C.; two grandchildren, Jason Barrett, Melanie Barrett; and a daughter-in-law, Antoinette Barrett.

A funeral will be conducted Tuesday at noon in Second Calvary Baptist Church by Dr. Geoffrey Guns. Burial will be in Roosevelt Cemetery. Hale Funeral Home is in charge. Family and friends will assemble at the residence at 11 a.m. Tuesday. The body will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. Tuesday.
