CHARLES L. REVELLE SR.

Charles Leslie Revelle Sr., 94, a businessman, agriculturalist and civic leader, died April 27, 1996, at his home on Lakeview Drive.

Except for the time he attended business school, he devoted his entire life to the Murfreesboro area. His efforts and adventures touched every phase of the community's life. He was either the founder or driving force in a number of Murfreesboro enterprises. These included a country store, cotton ginning, fishing, a drug store, supermarket, hardware store, grain elevator, and real estate development. He served for several years on the town council and worked toward the formation of the Murfreesboro Board of Trade.

Mr. Revelle was an active member, past president, and the last surviving charter member of the Murfreesboro Rotary Club. He served the Murfreesboro Baptist Church as a trustee and Deacon. Following many years of service to Chowan College, he was named an honorary life trustee. Mr. Revelle's friends and associates always knew him first and foremost as a devoted family man.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Floy Daniel. Survivors include his wife, Martha Seymour Revelle; two sons, Charles L. Revelle Jr. and his wife, Margaret, John Paige Revelle, and his wife, Barbara, all of Murfreesboro; seven grandchildren, Chuck, Henry and Jay Revelle of Murfreesboro, Meg Revelle Chapin and Paige Revelle of Raleigh, Emily Revelle Beck of Charlotte, and Dan Revelle of Newport News; and nine great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in Murfreesboro Baptist Church, with internment following at Riverside Cemetery. Ministers officiating will be Dr. Davis L. Smith Jr. and Rev. Thomas H. Caulkins.

The family will receive friends at the residence, 606 Lakeview Drive, until 9 p.m. Sunday. Memorial donations may be made to the Murfreesboro Baptist Church, Chowan College or other organizations. Arrangements by Garrett Funeral Home.
