Police are asking public assistance in solving these cases:
Robert L. Boykins, 51, has been a fugitive for more than a year. He is wanted on charges of murder and using a gun while committing a felony.
The crime occurred Jan. 14, 1995, about 4:30 p.m., in the 800 block of St. Paul's Blvd. John R. Smiley Jr., 28, of Norfolk, was visiting his girlfriend's home when he was shot in the face with a shotgun. He died a short time later at a hospital.
Boykins, who is also known as ``Tone-Lo,'' is described as black, having a large build - 5 feet 10 and 290 pounds - with thinning black hair and a dark complexion. He also may have a mustache. He is generally unkempt in appearance.
He is often violent and is considered armed and dangerous. He was last known to frequent Young Terrace, Chesapeake Manor and Trice Terrace.
A man who has been cashing bad checks throughout the area tried again April 17 at the First Union Bank branch in the 400 block of Crawford St.
The man, using the name Neville Hunter Perish, tried to cash a phony check from Peck Recycling. He failed.
Police have learned that he has cashed several checks throughout the city using a fake military identification. Police have the card, which looks authentic, but the man is not in the military.
Anyone wishing to view the picture can contact Detective Anntonette Lacompte at 393-8536.
The suspect is described as black, about 5 feet 8, 170 pounds and in his middle 20s.
Two homemade bombs exploded in mailboxes on Feb. 27.
About 5:40 p.m. that day, a pipe bomb destroyed a mailbox in the 5200 block of West Vallyside Court in the Fairfield neighborhood. About 20 minutes later, another destroyed a mailbox in the 4800 block of Admiration Drive in Bellamy Manor Estates.
No one was injured in either explosion.
A gray, four-wheel-drive vehicle may have been used by the suspects.
Police continue to look for the suspect in a Dec. 11, 1993, homicide.
The victim, Pedro Vega, was stabbed to death inside his mobile home on Shell Road.
His home was in disarray, a sign that there may have been a struggle.
Police have not determined a motive, but robbery has been ruled out.
A woman was robbed as she got into her car in the 2300 block of W. Mercury Blvd. about 3:30 p.m. March 17.
A man grabbed her purse, which was strapped around her shoulder, ran across a parking lot and got into a gray Chrysler Fifth Avenue driven by a black female.
A witness was able to remember part of the Virginia license plate: GRAM.
The suspect is described as white; tall with a thin build; and wearing a hooded Army jacket and cut-off blue jean shorts. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
