LOCAL SEAL DIES IN FALL FROM PANAMA CITY HIGH-RISE COMPLEX

A Norfolk-based sailor died Saturday morning after falling from the 14th floor of an apartment building in the upscale neighborhood of Punta Paitilla in downtown Panama City.

Petty Officer John P. Youngerman, 26, was a member of a SEAL unit based at Little Creek Amphibious Base in Norfolk, the U.S. Southern Command said in a brief statement.

Youngerman was on temporary duty with a special unit based at the Rodman Naval Station in the Panama Canal area, the Navy said.

``Youngerman was off-duty and visiting friends at the time of the incident,'' the statement said.

An investigation is under way.
