ROBERT S. THOMPSON SR.

Robert Stahl Thompson Sr., 85, died on Monday, April 29, 1996, in a Norfolk hospital.

He was born in the Berkley section of Norfolk, and was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Sue Lawrence Thompson. He was retired from civil service at the Norfolk Naval Supply Center as a defense surplus sales specialist.

Mr. Thompson was a former member of the Christian Temple, and had attended First Baptist Church of Norfolk. He also was a former member of the Norfolk Elks Lodge and was a charter member of the Lafayette Yacht Club.

Survivors include three sons, John L. Thompson of Orlando, Fla., Robert S. Thompson Jr. of Springfield, Va., and David L. Thompson of Virginia Beach; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Chapel of Cox Funeral Home by the Rev. Bruce D. Tuttle. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with the family on Wednesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at 416 Rhode Island Ave. Memorial contributions may be made to Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters or to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
