Katie Smith Woodley, 66, of the 2100 block of Columbus Ave., a mother and friend to all, died April 29, 1996, in Maryview Hospital, Portsmouth.
She was retired from Smith and Welton Tea Room after three years of service. She was a native of Norfolk County and a lifelong resident of Portsmouth. She was a member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church, Portsmouth, where she was on the Usher Board (NU)2, a member of the Ways and Means Committee, and a member of the Willing Workers.
She is survived by her former husband, Edward L. Woodley Sr. of Washington, D.C.; three daughters, Flora L. May, Gloria D. Gould and Carol Woodley, all of Portsmouth; four sons, George R. Smith of Atlantic City, N.J., Edward L. Woodley Jr. of Oakwood, Va., Charles A. Woodley of San Diego, Calif., and Marshall D. Woodley of Jarrett, Va.; brother, Benjamin Smith of Chesapeake; 18 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; a cousin; in-laws and friends; and two special nieces, Linda Boone Jones and Lillian Drake.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday by the Rev. W.S. Hampton in Mount Calvary Baptist Church, Portsmouth. Burial will be in Lincoln Memorial Cemetery, Portsmouth. Viewing at Corprew Funeral Home will begin at 10 a.m. Friday. The family will be at the funeral home from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday. The body will be taken to the church at 10 a.m. Saturday.
