Longtime Oregon Inlet Fishing Center Manager Emmett E. ``Satch'' Smith Jr. was arrested late Tuesday and charged with six counts of taking indecent liberties with a minor and two counts of crimes against nature.
The charges are the result of a series of incidents that occurred between 1989 and 1993 with children aged 9 to 15, Dare County Sheriff A.L. ``Bert'' Austin said.
The Dare County Grand Jury indicted Smith on those charges April 22.
Smith, a 42-year-old East Lake resident, was released after posting a $5,000 secured bond. A trial date has not been set.
Smith has managed Oregon Inlet Fishing Center in Nags Head for at least 10 years, overseeing maintenance of the marina and booking reservations for about 30 charter fishing boats.
Smith was unavailable for comment Wednesday night. by CNB
