John E. Winters Jr., 79, of the 30 block of Algonquin Street died May 2, 1996, at his residence.
Mr. Winters was a native of Rocky Mount, N.C. He retired from Norfolk Naval Shipyard as a Planner-Estimator after 32 years of service. He was a veteran of World War II. He was a member of Portsmouth Christian Church.
Mr. Winters was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel E. Winters, in April of this year. He is survived by his daughter, JoAnn Thomas, and her husband, Dick, of Chesapeake; brother, Pete E. Winters of Virginia Beach; two grandchildren, John E. and Sheri L. Thomas, both of Chesapeake; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. in Greenlawn Memorial Park with Richard Laslo presiding. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hope Haven Children's Home, 3000 N. Landing Road, Virginia Beach. Altmeyer Funeral Home is in charge.
