Candidate Daun S. Hester has raised $29,376 for her campaign for City Council, roughly half the $57,599 reported in Thursday's Virginian-Pilot, due to an error on the part of the candidate.
Hester said Thursday she misinterpreted the financial disclosure forms she filed with the voter registrar, and mistakenly included money she raised in campaigns in 1992 and 1994.
With the new figures, Hester becomes the fifth-highest fund-raiser in Hampton Roads for the current council and School Board campaigns, not the first. She now ranks just below Councilman Mason C. Andrews, who raised $29,820.
Hester reported correctly the individual donations she received during this reporting period. So the rest of Thursday's report, the data on the contributors Hester shared in common with Andrews, was correct.
