4 MEN AND WOMAN FACE DRUG CHARGES AFTER POLICE SWEEP WOUNDED DETECTIVE IS RELEASED FROM SENTARA HOSPITAL.

Four men and a woman have been charged in connection with a drug sweep of three neighborhoods that left a Norfolk detective with a gunshot wound to his arm.

James Vincent Beasley Sr., 60, of the 700 block of Reservoir Ave., was arraigned in General District Court Thursday and charged with attempted capital murder in the shooting of vice-narcotics detective Robert Douros. Other charges against Beasley are pending.

Douros, 38, was shot in the upper left arm during a drug bust on Reservoir Avenue in the Brambleton section Wednesday morning. Another bullet ricocheted off his helmet. Douros was released from Sentara Norfolk General Hospital Thursday afternoon, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

Police recovered at least seven pounds of marijuana, an undetermined amount of heroin and cocaine, one rifle, two shotguns, six handguns and more than $10,000, according to Maravia Ebong, a spokeswoman for the Norfolk Police Department.

Also arraigned Thursday before General District Court Judge Ray W. Dezern Jr. were four others apparently arrested as a result of the police operation:

George E. Morgan, 51, of the 600 block of Berkely Ave. Extension, charged with four drug charges and a firearms charge.

Herbert Jones, 59, of the 2800 block of Dunkirk Ave., charged with four drug counts.

Darcell Fox, 27, of the 2800 block of Dunkirk Ave., charged with six drug counts.

Gregory Fox, 30, Darcell Fox's husband, charged with six drug counts and a firearms charge.

Police had obtained search warrants to look for heroin, cocaine and marijuana in two dwellings on Reservoir and Claiborne avenues in Brambleton, one residence on East Berkley Avenue in Berkley and two on Dunkirk Avenue in Lafayette Manor. Douros was inside the Reservoir Avenue house when he was shot.
