Jeanne M. Gahagan, 64, of the 5300 block of Academy Road, a retired Virginia Beach school teacher, died suddenly on Thursday, May 2, 1996, in Marshall, N.C.
A native of Asheville, N.C., Jeanne taught in the Portsmouth Public Schools for many years before transferring to the Virginia Beach Public School System, from which she retired in 1993. Since her retirement, Jeanne has devoted her time to community service and was very active in MADD.
She was a graduate of Lee Edwards High School in Asheville and Old Dominion University in Norfolk.
She is survived by her husband, Coach Ralph Gahagan of Virginia Beach; two daughters, Debbie Williamson of Greenville, N.C., Dr. Patti Gahagan of Virginia Beach; and three sons, Lynn E. Gahagan and his wife, Mary, of Chesapeake, Tom Gahagan and his wife, Patty, of Four Oaks, N.C., and Michael Gahagan of Danville, Va. She is also survived by her mother, Maurine Starnes Moore of Shelby, N.C.; a sister, Edna Miller of Richmond, Calif.; a brother, John T. Moore of Pass Christian, Miss., as well as several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held 2:30 p.m. Sunday in Madison Funeral Chapel, Marshall, N.C. Burial will follow in the G.W. Gahagan Family Cemetery in Marshall, N.C. A memorial service for her many friends in this area will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, Virginia. The family requests that memorial donations in her memory be made to a favorite charity.
