USE THE SEQUOIA TREASURE

Some weeks ago, I wrote concerning the presidential yacht Sequoia that is moored at the Norfolk Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Co. and the possibility of this historical vessel becoming a part of an exhibit at the Nauticus Maritime Center.

In connection with this endeavor, I wrote Mr. Jack Roper, president of NS&DD and mentioned his maybe coming to some arrangement with Mr. David Guernsey, president & CEO of Nauticus that the yacht could be moored there for future generations to enjoy. I sent copies of my letter to Norfolk Mayor Paul Fraim, Del. Robert Scott, Sens. John Warner and Charles Robb, hoping to enlist their assistance. I am sure these gentlemen could work out some method by which NS&DD would be able to recover the monies owed and Norfolk would have a fine addition to its waterfront.

I regret saying that I have not received an answer from any of these distinguished gentleman and that might indicate how low a priority they place on a project suggested by a taxpaying citizen. Of course, if it had some political significance it may be a little more interesting. Any help the newspaper can offer would he appreciated.

Why should this ship sit and rot in the sheds of NS&DD and not be displayed where it would be able to help Norfolk and its citizens?
