ERNESTINE D. CRANDELL

Mrs. Ernestine Young Diggs Crandell, 80, of the 300 block of Briggs St., died May 1, 1996, in Obici Hospital.

She was a native of Nansemond County. Mrs. Crandell was predeceased by her husband, Matthew Crandell, and her parents, John and Annie Bland Young. She was retired from Planters Peanut Company and was a member of East End Baptist Church, Suffolk. She was also a member of Jericho Hollywood Civic League and Local 26.

She is survived by five sons, Mr. Ollie Taylor Jr. and Mr. Willie J. Crandell, both of Newport News, Elder Victor P. Diggs Sr. and Mr. Hezekiah Diggs Sr., both of Suffolk, and Mr. Leroy Diggs, of Glenn Allen, Va.; devoted niece, Mrs. Nellie Mae Gray of Suffolk; sister-in-law, Mrs. Claudia M. Young of Baltimore, Md.; five daughters-in-law; 25 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and several other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday in East End Baptist Church, by Dr. Mark A. Croston Sr. Burial is in Carver Memorial Cemetery. The family will assemble at the home of Mrs. Alma Boone, 802 Adam St., Suffolk. The body will be taken to the church Monday by 11:30 a.m. Crocker Funeral Home is in charge.
