Benjamin Hunter Saunders Jr., 75, of the 3500 block of Kingman Ave., died Thursday, May 2, 1996, in a local hospital.
He was a native of Henderson, N.C., and was a retired conductor for the Norfolk and Portsmouth Belt Line Railroad. He was a member of Central Baptist Church, Portsmouth, where he was a member of the Sunday school bible class. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion and the United Transportation Union.
He is survived by a sister, Jewell S. Shackelford of Fayetteville, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Elmwood Cemetery, Henderson, N.C., by Dr. Marion Lark. The family will be at the Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, today from 3 to 5 p.m. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Central Baptist Church, Portsmouth.
