BUFFKIN MAKES IT 2 IN A ROW AT LANGLEY

Mike Buffkin moved from fourth place to first on lap 36 and led the rest of the way to win the 100-lap Late Model Stock feature Saturday night at Langley Speedway.

The win was the second in a row for the Tabb, Va., driver.

Phil Warren of Norfolk moved into second place on lap 75 but was tapped by Roger Sawyer of Chesapeake heading into turn 3 and wound up finishing fourth.

Tempers flared in the pits. Sawyer and members of Warren's crew exchanged words and had to be restrained.

``I was all the way up to as far as I could go,'' Warren said. ``I left him plenty of room.''

Said Sawyer, ``That's racing, man. Two people want the same stretch. I didn't see him when we touched. I was paying more attention to the line I was racing.''

Sawyer finished second, followed by Shawn Balluzzo of Norfolk, Warren, and Greg Edwards of Poquoson.

Jody McCormick had moved up to third place on lap 97 but crashed going into turn 3 and ended up 14th when he tangled with Balluzzo.

``We didn't have but two laps,'' McCormick said. ``I was holding on and hoping nobody else would hit me.

``I don't know how bad (the damage) is. We'll be OK. We've still got next week.''

In Saturday's other races:

In the 40-lap Grand Stock event, John Hicks passed Kevin Wagner on lap 13 and held off Wagner the rest of the way in a race slowed by four caution flags. Rhett Bussler was third, followed by Rick Hester and Kevin Goe.

Jerry Scott won his fourth straight pole position and held off a late charge by Paul Lubno to win the 25-lap Limited Stock feature.

Lubno, who started 20th after failing a prerace inspection, bolted to third after seven laps and pulled next to Scott before a caution on lap 23. Scott, of Hampton, jumped ahead on the restart and won by several car lengths.

Kelly Carson, Corey Fogelman and Mike Townsley rounded out the top five.

In the 25-lap Pure Stock feature, Kenny Phares led from start to finish for his second career victory. Sam Zollener was second, followed by Woody Vance and Chris Russell.

In the 25-lap Mini-Stock race, Kevin Harrison built a big lead in the first five laps and won going away for his third victory of the season.

Glen Smith II, Kevin Reitneouer, Joe Lupton and Joe McInerny rounded out the top five. by CNB
