Emmie Fitchett ``Em'' Joyner, a retired school teacher, of the 1600 block of Atlantic Ave., died May 2, 1996, in her home.
Mrs. Joyner was born in Norfolk County and had retired from the Chesapeake School System after 40 years. She was the widow of William Joyner and was a member of Providence United Church of Christ in Chesapeake, the Elizabeth City University Alumni Chapter, Chesapeake Retired Teachers Association and National Retired Teachers Association.
Survivors include a daughter, Earlene Wilson Joyner; a sister, Gertie F. Howcott; a sister-in-law, Claire Fitchette; and a brother-in-law, Theryl Howcott, all of Chesapeake; and many other surviving relatives and friends.
A funeral will be conducted at noon Wednesday in Providence United Church of Christ (Westmunden), Chesapeake, by the Rev. Dr. Alexander Jamison Sr. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park. The body will be placed in church at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Fitchett Funeral Home is in charge.
