PAINT-BALL MINE AT SCHOOL LEADS TO SUSPENSIONS FOR 2

Two students have been suspended for 10 days for putting what at the time was thought to be an explosive device in a boys bathroom at Manteo High School on Tuesday.

Superintendent Leon Holleman said Saturday the device turned out to be a paint-ball mine that is used in games where rivals use toy weapons that fire balls filled with paint.

He said the device was purchased at a Nags Head shop.

The names of the suspended students were not released. Holleman said information about the incident has been turned over to police.

The device was discovered in the school by a custodian and carried outside by an assistant principal. It was examined by bomb experts and found to be harmless, Holleman said.
