Wilfred I. Bivens, of the 900 block of Basie Crescent, died May 5, 1996, in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
He was retired from the supply department in Norfolk Naval Shipyard after 34 years. He was a native of Portsmouth and a former member of New Bethel Baptist Church. Mr. Bivens was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and he was inducted into the I.C. Norcom Hall of Fame.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Griffin Bivens; two sons, Wilfred I. Bivens Jr. of Chesapeake, Carlton Bivens Sr. of Norfolk; sister, Betty J. Bivens; three grandchildren, Vellenise T. Bivens, Carlton Bivens, and Spencer Griffin Bivens; and a host of caring in-laws, other relatives and friends.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday by Dr. Sidney Foster in New Hope Baptist Church, Chesapeake. Entombment is in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Chesapeake. The family will be at the funeral home today from 6 to 7 p.m. Fisher Funeral Home is in charge. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
