Junius ``Kingfish'' Pope, 60, a resident of Hyder's Trailer Park, died May 6, 1996, at Southampton Memorial Hospital.
A native of Southampton County, he was born Jan. 8, 1936. He was preceded in death by his father, David E. Pope, and a sister, Madeline Pope. Mr. Pope had retired from Cleveland Motors.
Survivors include his wife, Mary L. Pope; two daughters, Kathy P. Darden and her husband, Hunter, of Sedley and Robin Lynn Powell and her husband, Edwin, of Emporia; three sons, David Earl Pope and his wife, Sherry, of Newsoms, Dale Henry Pope and his wife, Dawn, of Black Creek, Va., and Jerry W. Lee of Arkansas; his mother, Maggie Pope of Capron; two brothers, Ralph Martin of Roanoke Rapids, N.C., and A.L. Pope of Capron; a sister, Vicky Cahoon of Virginia Beach; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Sycamore Baptist Church by the Rev. Dr. Reginald Warren and the Rev. Kenneth Williams. The family will receive friends at Mrs. Ellaree Hyder's home at 20156 Ivor Road, Courtland, from 6 to 8 p.m. today and suggest that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Mrs. Ruth Petty, 112 Southampton Road, Franklin, Va. 23851, or a favorite charity. Wright Funeral Home is in charge.
