LAMB GAINS CHANCE TO RUN FOR RE-ELECTION IN PASQUOTANK

Pasquotank County Board of Commissioners Chairman Zee B. Lamb was apparently the outright winner Tuesday in his bid for a third Democratic nomination for the seat.

According to unofficial results, Lamb garnered 2,168 votes, followed by former City Councilman David P. Bosomworth with 1,345 and businessman Jay Gaddy with 340.

Unofficial totals also showed Frank A. Jennings III and F. Mark Small as apparent winners of two open School Board seats.

Lamb, 38, has been a county commissioner for the past eight years. He will face Republican contender Jerome H. ``Jerry'' Gold-schmidt in November.

Lamb said during the campaign that he was most proud of helping the county renovate every school in the district and break ground on a new middle school. Lamb has said he will push to build a new high school in the coming years.

The only challenged incumbent for any race in Pasquotank County, Lamb said some of his opposition may have resulted from his controversial vote to kill a commission studying the merger of Elizabeth City and Pasquotank County.

Bosomworth had been an ardent supporter of the study, although he said he would not try to bring it back if elected.

``I feel great,'' Lamb said from his home minutes after the totals were announced. ``It was a hard, tough campaign and I'm very glad it's over.

``I will continue to strive to be a representative of all the people.''

Jennings, 46, won the three-way at-large School Board race with 2,074 votes. He was followed by funeral home director R. Rodney Robinson, 40, who received 1,612 votes and retired minister Carl G. Conner, 68, who received 659 votes.

Small, 42, won the outside-city School Board seat over retired teacher Mary E. Sharpe by a 2,405-1,995 margin.
