Robert Turner Ewell Sr., 81, of Route 1, died Tuesday, May 7, 1996, in his home.
Mr. Ewell was born in Norfolk. The son of the late Jesse A. and Mrs. Anna Mae Turner Ewell, he was a retired welder-burner at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He was a Presbyterian and a U.S. Coast Guard veteran of World War II.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Thelma Modlin Ewell; two daughters, Linda Ewell Merritt of Virginia Beach and Donna Ewell Doughtie of Eure; a son, Bobby Ewell of Eure; two sisters, Harriett Rogers of Radclift, Ky., and Nancy Huggins of Jacksonville, Fla.; and four grandchildren.
At Mr. Ewell's request, his body has been donated to medical science. A memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m. today in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, by the Rev. Horace Culpepper. Friends may join the family following the service in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gates County Rescue Squad or the American Heart Association.
