SUMMONED

Portsmouth has an employee who inspects downspouts.

I received a notice indicating that I had 30 days to repair a downspout that had slipped four or five inches from its connection. This was repaired, but heavy rains caused it to slip once more. I did not notice this condition.

I was then sent a ``Notice To Appear'' in City Hall on a given date. It was stated that if I did not appear, a summons from General District Court would be issued.

I am a retired teacher but work summers as a job counselor. It will be necessary to miss time from work.

Citizens of Portsmouth, inspect your downspouts daily or you might also be summoned.

Ever wonder why Portsmouth continues to lose citizens to Virginia Beach and Chesapeake?
