JOHN L. TYNCH

John L. Tynch, 78, of Rivershore Road died Wednesday, May 8, 1996, in Sentara Leigh Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Tynch was born on Jan. 28, 1918, in Edenton, N.C., and was the son of the late Stephen M. and Hattie E. Tynch. He was a member of Western Branch Baptist Church in Portsmouth and Lake Osborne Baptist Church in Lake Worth, Fla. Mr. Tynch previously owned and operated Central Insurance Agency and Tynch Enterprises, a real estate development company. He was past president of the Chesapeake Chamber of Commerce, past president of the Portsmouth Sports Club and past chairman of the Democratic Committee for Norfolk County. In addition, he was past president of the Cradock Property Owners' Association, former director of the American Cancer Society, former director of the Portsmouth Chamber of Commerce, former director of the Chesapeake Housing Board, past Master of America Lodge (NU)330, Portsmouth Scottish Rite Bodies, Khedive Shrine Temple, past member of the Portsmouth Kiwanis Club, Portsmouth Elks Club and Portsmouth FOPA. He also served on Homestead Savings Bank, Bank of Cradock and First and Merchants National Bank boards.

Survivors include his devoted wife of 54 years, Inez C. Tynch; his children, John L. and Elizabeth B. Tynch Jr., David R. and April S. Tynch, and Patricia T. and Richard B. Morris. He is also survived by five grandchildren, John L. Tynch III, Christian L. Tynch, Ashley D. Tynch, Alisa C. Tynch, and David A. Tynch. He is survived by a sister, Hattie E. Bunch of Portsmouth, and a brother, S. Albert Tynch of Cherry Hill, N.J. Other family member include Bernice and Svend Keat, Helen and Arthur Smith and Gloria and Carl Morris.

The funeral will be conducted on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Sturtevent Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, by the Rev. Bob Fones. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens with Masonic rites accorded at the graveside. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
