Mary E. Phelps, 75, of the 700 block of Forbes St., died May 8, 1996. Born in Norfolk, she was a member of St. Paul C.M.E. Church in Norfolk. She was past president of the Senior Usher board.
She is survived by her husband, Frank Phelps; one daughter, Mary L. Perry of Boston; four sisters, Georgia Taylor, LaRosa Tillett, Flossie Taylor, Irene Stokes, all of Norfolk; five grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday by the Rev. T.A. McKenny in St. Paul C.M.E. Church, Virginia Beach Blvd. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park. A wake service will be held Sunday from 5 to 6 p.m. in Hale Funeral Home Chapel. The family and friends will assemble on Monday at the residence at 10 a.m. The body will be placed in the church at 10 a.m.
