Winston M. ``Mert'' Holloman, 63, died May 8, 1996, in Sentara Leigh Memorial Hospital.
He was a retired civil engineer for the Army Corps of Engineers. Mr. Holloman was a native of Ahoskie, N.C., and he graduated from Virginia Tech. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and he was a loving husband and father and the best grandfather anyone could have. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines and was predeceased by his wife, Christine, a year ago.
He is survived by four daughters, Robin Van Auken of Virginia Beach, Ellen H. and husband, Bob Blaisdell of Virginia Beach, Carole H. Smith and husband, Elmslie of Virginia Beach, Kimberley H. and husband, David Alexander of Purcellville, Va.; mother, Ellen Holloman of Virginia Beach; two brothers, J.B. Holloman Jr. of Williamsburg, Va., and McCoy Holloman of Virginia Beach; and seven grandchildren, Keegan, Chrissy, Peter, Carole Lee, Jessica, Bobbie and Marshall.
A memorial service will be conducted at 5 p.m. Saturday by the Rev. Joyce Kramer in Kellum Funeral Home, Pleasant Hall, Kempsville Chapel. Burial will be private and at a later date. The family will receive friends at the family home following the services. Donations may be made to Hope Haven Children's Home, 900 Granby St., Norfolk.
