George Ivey Hayes, 92, died May 9, 1996, in Hillhaven Nursing Center.
He was a machinist for the National Screen Factory for over 60 years where he worked until his retirement. He was a native of Gates County, N.C. and was the widower of Elma Williams Hayes. He was a member of Oxford United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Wesley Bible Class.
He is survived by a daughter, Charlotte Hayes Mansfield of Suffolk; and two granddaughters, Meredith F. Mansfield and Valerie A. Mansfield, both of Suffolk.
A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday by the Rev. George H. Close Jr. in Bethlehem Christian Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Oxford United Methodist Church, 601 W. Washington St., Suffolk, 23434. The family will receive friends in the home of Charlotte Mansfield, 136 Holly Hill Lane in Suffolk.
