Harry L. Wilkes, 59, of the 1000 block of Scenic Blvd., died May 8, 1996, in his residence.
He was a chief electricians mate for the U.S. Navy for 22 years. He also worked for Burger King for 11 years in the maintenance department. He was retired. He was a native of Chesterfield County, S.C. and was a Methodist. He enjoyed gardening, his grandchildren, and his family. Most of all he was greatly loved and will be sorely missed.
He is survived by his wife, Joanne Wilkes; three daughters, Amy Ann Wilkes of Philadelphia, Lisa E. Miller of Shiloh, N.C., Jennifer L. Wilkes of Chesapeake; son, Christopher L. Wilkes of Chesapeake; sister, Naomi W. Wallace of Lake Mary, Fla.; three brothers, Herbert I. Wilkes of Mont Verde, Fla., Richard H. Wilkes of Edgemoor, S.C., Donald L. Wilkes of Atlantic City, N.J.; grandchildren, Kyle Wilkes, Cody Wilkes, Caine Wilkes, and Coard Wilkes, all of Chesapeake, Ellen Grace Miller of Shiloh, N.C. He was predeceased by a brother, John F. Wilkes Jr. of Johns Island, S.C.
A funeral service will be private and at a later date. The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Bridge Chapel, today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Donations may be made to the Salvation Army or to a charity of one's choice.
