James Roscoe Burden Jr., 56, of the 3600 block of Labrador Lane, died May 8, 1996, in his residence.
He was a certified general appraiser and a native of Aulander, N.C. He attended Aulander High School, Campbell College, and graduated from North Carolina State University in 1963 with a Bachelor of Science degree. He was awarded the MAI designation by the American Institute of Real Estate Appraisers. He was employed as Assistant Chief Appraiser, Atlantic Division, Naval Facilities, Engineering Command, Norfolk and Washington, D.C. He was formerly with the Virginia Department of Highways, Suffolk District and the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers.
He is survived by his wife, Marcia Catoe Burden of Suffolk; daughter, Christine Burden Taylor and her husband, William Davis Taylor, both of Suffolk; son, James Andrew Burden of Frisco, N.C.; two sisters, Carolyn B. Peele of Aulander, N.C., and Sandra B. Wetmore of Manhattan Beach, Calif.; brother, Raleigh B. Burden of Richmond; grandson, William Reid Taylor of Suffolk; and seven nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Mildred Myers Burden and James R. Burden Sr.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. today by Dr. Robert Marr in Harrell Funeral Home, Suffolk. Contributions may be made to the Nansemond-Suffolk Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 1515, Suffolk, Va. 23439.
