AT SOME PIERS, WINDFALL CAME BEFORE WIND CHANGED

Pier fishing was good for most of Thursday along the northern beaches.

On Kitty Hawk Pier, tailor blues, speckle trout and gray trout were landed during the morning and early afternoon. A shift in the wind to the northeast put an end to the action.

Avalon Pier reported sea mullet, bluefish and gray trout taken. A few sea mullet and gray trout were landed after the wind switch.

Some tailor bluefish, croakers and a couple of trout were caught by fishermen on Nags Head Pier during the day.

On Outer Banks Pier, tailor bluefish and keeper speckle trout were landed during the morning on jiggers. Some sea mullet were also taken. Only a handful of bluefish and sea mullet were decked during the afternoon.

South of Oregon Inlet, on Rodanthe Pier, tailor blues, small flounder, sea mullet and toadfish were caught.

On Avon Pier a few mullet, toadfish and small flounder were taken.

Frisco Pier reported slow fishing during most of the morning. Action improved during the afternoon with nice size bluefish, flounder and sea mullet landed.

Scattered bottom fish were taken by surf fishermen along the northern beaches on the incoming tide.

Speckle trout were landed from the catwalk on the Bonner Bridge on Wednesday evening and Thursday.

Scattered sea mullet, bluefish and gray trout were taken along the beach from Rodanthe to Buxton.

At Cape Point anglers beached a few puppy drum, sea mullet and bluefish.

A 44-inch drum, one big bluefish, some small bluefish, skates and big rays were landed at Hatteras Inlet Wednesday night.

Tuna fishing was good off Oregon Inlet on Thursday. Most charters caught their limits of yellowfin, along with a few dolphin and wahoo.

Hatteras charters reported fair catches of tuna, dolphin and wahoo. Several billfish were released.

The water temperature was 59 degrees Thursday at the Army Corps of Engineers Pier in Duck and 68 degrees at the Frisco Pier on Hatteras Island.

A good drum run should develop at Cape Point on Hatteras Island with the next sustained period of southwest winds. by CNB
