The North Carolina Fisheries Association, which represents more than 1,000 commercial watermen, seafood packagers and fish house operators throughout the state, is reorganizing its management structure.
In the process, the nonprofit organization has hired Rick Marks, a former biologist with the state Division of Marine Fisheries, to be the Fisheries Association's vice president of government affairs and science.
Marks holds a master's degree in marine environmental science and coastal fish ecology from New York's Stoney Brook University. He worked for the state's Division of Marine Fisheries in Manteo and was the East Coast government relations representative for the National Fisheries Institute.
Part of Marks' new responsibilities will involve taking over the duties of Bob Peele, who is leaving the Fisheries Association to work as a state contractor on Oregon Inlet stabilization projects.
Other changes within the organization: Jim Johnson, owner of Washington Crab Co., formerly president of the Fisheries Association, will be chairman of the board of directors, and Sandy Seamans, formerly communications director, is now vice president in charge of communications. by CNB
