CHILD-ABUSE DETECTOR

I was pleased to read your article on Dr. John de Triquet and his exceptional work. He is one of the heroes of our community, and we are very proud that he is the director of medical services for the Child Abuse Center of Hampton Roads. The case management and coordination of medical and psychological services of the Child Abuse Center are the result of many years of experience.

However, I do have one correction to the article. The ``colposcopic'' exam of young victims of child sexual abuse is a noninvasive exam. The colposcope allows Dr. de Triquet to do an internal exam on the children without insertion of any instrument into the child's body. It is both Dr. de Triquet's manner and the miracle of this small piece of equipment that makes these exams nontraumatic for the children.

Again, thank you for recognizing Dr. de Triquet and his work.
