SOFT-SPOKEN GUNMAN ROBS BANK AT BEACH AND ESCAPES ON FOOT

Police are searching for a man who robbed the First Virginia Bank of Tidewater in the 5200 block of Princess Anne Road on Friday morning.

Police said the man entered the bank, walked up to a window and asked for money as he pointed a gun at the teller. The man was described as soft spoken and polite.

After receiving an undisclosed amount of cash, the suspect left the bank on foot.

Investigators say the man is suspected of several other local robberies, including the Thursday afternoon robbery of the Albano Cleaners in the Providence Square Shopping Center and the April 23 robbery of the Signet Bank in the 900 block of Diamond Springs Road.

The suspect was described as a black male in his late 20s or early 30s. He is 5-foot-7 to 5-foot-9 and weighs 160 to 180 pounds with a medium build. He has a mustache and a goatee and was wearing a dark blue hooded sweatshirt, light-colored pants and a tan fishing hat.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Solvers at 427-0000. Callers may remain anonymous and could be eligible for a reward up to $1,000.
