A 15-year-old Portsmouth boy was charged with several firearms violations this week after he allegedly pulled a handgun on two staff members at the Barry Robinson Center, police said.
The incident took place Thursday at 8:45 a.m. Police said the boy, who attended the center, was on the school grounds with a .25-caliber automatic handgun.
While he was being searched, the boy removed the gun from his pants pocket, pointed the weapon at two staff members and pulled the trigger. It did not discharge, police said.
Police said the boy then went to the school cafeteria, where he fired one shot. The bullet was found lodged in the cafeteria ceiling.
The teen, who lives in the 1400 block of Deep Creek Blvd., was arrested by Norfolk police and state troopers at the center, in the 400 block of Kempsville Road.
Barry Robinson is a treatment center for troubled children in Norfolk. Officials there could not be reached for comment.
The teen was charged with two counts of attempted malicious wounding, possession of a weapon on school grounds, possession of a weapon by a minor, use of a firearm while committing a felony and discharging a firearm in the city limits.
