Longtime Tidewater Women's Bowling Association secretary Reba Callis will be inducted into the Virginia State Bowling Hall of Fame on Saturday.
Callis, who has been secretary of the TWBA for nearly 24 years, is being recognized for meritorious service.
``We are very proud of Reba for all the outstanding work she has done for the sport of bowling,'' said Ernie Driver, president of the TWBA.
Unquestionably one of the finest run associations in WIBC, the TWBA serves 15 centers across the area.
Callis is one of 12 women bowlers who have been inducted into the Tidewater Virginia Bowling Council Hall of Fame. She will be the fifth area female bowler in the state hall.
``I was very surprised and real excited,'' said Callis, who will be inducted at the annual state meeting in Roanoke.
Only two are inducted into the state Hall of Fame each year. The other inductee this year is Cornell Jackson of Washington, D.C.
Fittingly, the award for Callis is coming at a time when she is showing her ingenuity by developing a new tournament called ``Follow the Seagull.''
Actually the official name is the first Season Kickoff Virginia Beach-Norfolk-Chesapeake Classic Tournament. Portsmouth bowlers have their own association and that's why it isn't included in the name.
However, any sanctioned WIBC or ABC bowlers will be eligible to participate.
The tournament will be Aug. 10-11, 17-18 and 24-25 with teams bowling at Pinboy's of Military and doubles and singles scheduled at Pinboy's of Norfolk.
The tournament will have a men's division and a women's division and lady members of the ABC will not be allowed to compete in the male category.
Top winners are guaranteed nearly $3,000 in prizes.
Bowler of the Week honors go to Mike Dibble.
Only a 154-average bowler, Dibble barely missed membership in the exclusive 300 Game Club in the Mighty Merchants Tenpin League at Pinboy's of Lynnhaven.
Dibble pitched 11 straight strikes en route to a 299 game, nearly doubling his average as he joined the Century Club.
He finished with a 602 series.
