SEAWALL FEST QUEEN CHOSEN

Marnie Klar, 20, a senior at the University of Miami, has been named this year's Miss Portsmouth Seawall Festival.

She will represent Portsmouth at the Miss Virginia Pageant in Roanoke on June 29. The pageant will be televised throughout the state.

The daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Lawrence A. Klar of Virginia Beach, Klar is a musical theater major seeking a bachelor of fine arts degree. She also was the winner of the Mary Beth Alexander talent trophy, for which she sang ``I Still Believe'' from the Broadway production of ``Miss Saigon.''

At 15, she appeared in the Hurrah Players' production of ``The Wizard of Oz.'' She attended the Hebrew Academy in Virginia Beach, Norfolk Collegiate and is a graduate of Cox High School in Virginia Beach.

The first runner-up in this year's pageant, held May 4 at Western Branch High School, was Natasha Halsey, a 17-year-old senior at Deep Creek High School; second runner-up was Jennifer Hillman, a 20-year-old senior at Virginia Wesleyan College; third runner-up and swimsuit winner was Shannon Mueller, a 19-year-old from Williamsburg who plans to attend Cornell University; and fourth runner-up was Kwanza Jones, a 24-year-old graduate of Princeton University.
