Gennie Mae Carter, 65, of the 1100 block of Mount Vernon Ave., died May 9, 1996, at her home.
Mrs. Carter, a native of Norfolk County, was a member of St. John Baptist Church, Portsmouth.
Survivors include her husband, Eddie Carter; four daughters, Lois Young, Willie Mae Murphy and Evelyn Settles, all of Portsmouth, and Barbara Williams of Virginia Beach; three sons, William Carter of Norfolk, Eddie Carter Jr. of Portsmouth, and Jerome Carter of Columbus, Ga.; her stepmother, Mollie White of Portsmouth; two sisters, Willie Mae Brown and Sarah Andrews, both of Portsmouth; a brother, Linwood White of New York, N.Y.; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, including a special cousin, Mamie Gatling of Portsmouth; in-laws and friends, including Lee Ann Roberts of Virginia Beach, and Carrie Earl and Maurreen Robinson, both of Portsmouth.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday by the Rev. John E. Jones at St. John Baptist Church, Portsmouth. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park, Portsmouth. Viewing at Corprew Funeral Home will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday. The body will be taken to the church at noon Wednesday.
