Walter Ronald Burroughs, 55, of the 5000 block of Shoulders Hill Rd., died May 11, 1996, in a Portsmouth hospital.
Mr. Burroughs, a native of Plainwell, Mich., was retired from the U.S. Marine Corps as a captain after 20 years of service and was a veteran of the Vietnam conflict. He was employed as a trucker for Greensville Transport Co., Arthur Transport Co., and Lancaster Farms. He was a member of St. Therese Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Claire Burroughs; a daughter, Dorothy R. Burroughs of Suffolk; three sons, Walter N. ``Nick'' Burroughs, Joel C. Burroughs, both of Sedro Wooley, Wash., and Alan D. Burroughs of Suffolk; his mother, Dorothy Hartwell Wagner of Otsego, Mich.; a sister, Linda DeBoer of Otsego; a brother, Dennis Burroughs of Otsego; a half-sister, Beverly Baldwin of Iowa Falls, Iowa; a half-brother, Steven Burroughs of Iowa Falls; and two grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Baker-Foster Funeral Home, Bennett's Creek Chapel, by the Rev. James C. Griffin. Burial with military honors will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a favorite charity.
