Jolaine Hankins, a retired school teacher and a poetry writer, died May 9, 1996.
She was an honor graduate of Booker T. Washington and Norfolk State University. She was a member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and Norfolk State Alumni Association. She was a Catholic and a native of Norfolk. She was the daughter of Rebecca G. Hankins of Norfolk and the late Mack Hankins.
Survivors include five sisters, Lorraine H. Lockhart of Houston, Texas, Annette Foskey of Jacksonville, N.C., Lurline Farwell of Virginia Beach, Maxine Hankins Cain of Lansing, Mich., and Rebecca Lynn Peterman of Newport News; a brother, Calvin K. Hankins Sr. of Chesapeake; a sister-in-law, Cynthia M. Hankins; a god daughter, Calvolyn Jolaine Hankins of Chesapeake; three brothers-in-law, L.J. Foskey of Jacksonville, Dr. Eugene Cain of Lansing, and Roy Peterman of Newport News; 11 nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday by Dr. I. Joseph Williams at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, 525 Dinwiddie St., Norfolk. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Metropolitan Funeral Service Tuesday from 7 to 8 p.m. Family and friends will assemble at 1001 Rockbridge Court, Chesapeake, Wednesday at noon for the funeral procession to the church.
