JENUS B. JONES

Jenus B. ``Gene'' Jones, 71, died May 10, 1996, at his residence on Salina Drive, Virginia Beach.

Mr. Jones retired from the U.S. Navy as a commander after 30 years of faithful service. After leaving the Navy, Mr. Jones received his bachelor of arts degree from St. Leo's College and later got involved in real estate and became a broker. He also taught real estate at Tidewater Community College and served the Tidewater area for more than 20 years.

Mr. Jones' memberships include the Tidewater Board of Realtors, Lions Club, Big Brothers, Sassy Seniors Bowling League and Civilian Conservation Corp. His military memberships include T.R.O.A., the A.N.A. and the Hawkeye Association.

Survivors include his wife, Judy; three daughters, Victoria Pratt of Virginia Beach, Janet Burkett of Chesapeake, Bucky Jones of Tampa, Fla.; two stepdaughters, Susan Dahl and Patricia Jones-Hermerding, both of Minnesota; one stepson, Charlie Jones of Minnesota; two sisters, Louella Lykins of Ohio and Genevieve Southerland of Indiana; three brothers, Oliver Huffman of Ohio, Stanley Jones and Louis Jones Jr., both of California; three grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Oceana Chapel, Virginia Beach. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Haygood United Methodist Church, Virginia Beach, or the VAW Memorial Scholarship Fund in care of VAW Officers' Wives Association, P.O. Box 5203, Virginia Beach, Va. 23455. Altmeyer Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
