ALEXANDER P. KOTARIDES

Alexander Paul Kotarides, 76, president and chief executive officer of Mary Jane Bakery/Kotarides Baking Company, died Monday, May 13, 1996, in DePaul Hospital.

Mr. Kotarides was born in Norfolk, and was the son of the late Paul A. Kotarides and Areta B. Kotarides. He was a member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Norfolk. A graduate of Maury High School, Mr. Kotarides graduated from the American Institute of Baking and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was a member of the American Bakers Association and the American Society of Bakery Engineers and was former president of the Virginia Bakers Council. He also received the Brotherhood Citation from the National Conference of Christians and Jews.

Mr. Kotarides was one of Hampton Roads' leading philanthropists. Among the organizations to which he generously contributed were the Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, DePaul Medical Center, the Salvation Army, Union Mission, Southeastern Foodbank of Virginia, the NAACP and the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral. He was also an energetic advocate for preserving natural habitats, especially on Hatteras and Gull Islands.

Mr. Kotarides is survived by three daughters, Rita Bagby of Baltimore, Joyce Feeney of Delmar, Md., and Sandra Kotarides of Richmond, Va.; a son, Paul A. Kotarides of Norfolk; two brothers, Christopher P. Kotarides Sr. of Norfolk and George P. Kotarides Sr. of Virginia Beach; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. by Father Constantine Rogakos at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Norfolk. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. A Trisagion service will be held at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk, today at 7 p.m. at which time the family will receive friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to DePaul Medical Center, the Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters, or other desired charities. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
