Helen Harris Gray, 94, died May 13, 1996, in a local hospital.
Mrs. Gray was a native of Granville County, N.C. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Hunter Gray who died in 1936. She was a member of Bayside Baptist Church in Virginia Beach. For most of her adult life, she was a member of Park Place Baptist Church in Norfolk until she moved to Virginia Beach in 1987.
Survivors include a son, Vern Harris Gray and his wife, Mae B. Gray of Virginia Beach; a sister, Pattie Lou Forehand of Norfolk; two grandchildren, W. Hunter Gray II and Jennifer Lynn Gray Groves, both of Chesapeake; two great-grandchildren, Patrick Hunter Gray and Raymond Paul Groves Jr.
A chapel service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk Chapel, by the Rev. Donald G. Wilson and Dr. Paul B. Watlington Jr. Burial will be at Ivy Hill Cemetery in Smithfield following the chapel service. There will be a visitation at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today.
