Barbara Jean Vaden, formerly of Courtland, Va., passed May 12, 1996, of a sudden illness in Sentara Hampton General Hospital.
She was a graduate of South Hampton High School in Courtland. She received a Bachelor of Science Degree, Cum Laude, from the School of Arts and Science, Virginia Union University. A veteran of U.S. Air Force, Major Vaden was a reservist stationed at Langley Air Base. She was employed as a teacher at Buckroe Baptist Church Daycare. She was a member of Morning Star Baptist Church.
She leaves to cherish fond memories, her son, Michael Vaden Jr., of Hampton; her parents, Isaiah and Evelyn Wynn McDonald of Courtland; three sisters, Christine Taylor, Sharon Davis and Linda McDonald of Richmond; a brother, Isaiah McDonald Jr. of Fort Drum, N.Y.; her fiance, Charlie Smith; grandparents, Roberta and Johnny Hodges of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a niece, Tyya Turner of New York; two nephews, Jamill Taylor of Richmond and Isaiah McDonald III of Ft. Drum; aunts and uncles, Jean and Nadine Hodges of New York, N.Y., Johnny and Arthur Hodges of New York, Viola and Joe Smith of Franklin, Va., Cora Person of Franklin, Helen Pope of Newport News, Fannie and Clarence Square of Pennsylvania.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Morning Star Baptist Church, 2717 North Armistead Ave., Hampton, with Rev. Wilbur R. Jones officiating. Viewing will be at the church two hours prior to services. Interment will be in Mars Hill Baptist Church, Capron, Va. Arrangements by Engram Funeral Home, Inc., Courtland.
