As the bishop of the Bennett's Creek Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormon Church), I thank The Virginian-Pilot and the Suffolk Sun for recent articles about the church.
I was particularly impressed with Phyllis Speidell and the amount of homework she was willing to do before committing the article to print. She attended our meetings and socials and read much material on the church. I felt the article was not biased and was quite accurate.
We were very grateful to have so many of our Suffolk neighbors attend our open house and building dedication. We hope they will visit and worship with us often.
There are those who are not familiar with the Mormon faith. Some of them, out of this ignorance, try to explain our beliefs. If you want to find out about the Baptists, ask a Baptist. If you want to learn of the Mormon faith, ask a Mormon.
The doors of our church are open to all. We invite everyone to come and learn of us. The message will be simple. We believe in Jesus Christ, we revere Him as the Son of God who came to earth in flesh to atone for the sins of all mankind - our Savior, our Redeemer, our Advocate with our Heavenly Father. We love Him and invite all to come and worship with us.
You may not believe everything we believe, but if you live among us you will know of a surety that we believe in Christ. May God bless you in all your righteous endeavors.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints A pleasant day that also offered lessons
On April 26, the Hampton Roads Radio Control Club provided the third-, fourth- and fifth-graders of Oakland Elementary School with an educational experience that will not be forgotten. The students were able to attend this session at the club's facilities at Lone Star Park in Suffolk.
Members of the club gave generously of their time and resources to allow the students a fantastic visual display of the principles of aviation and the pleasure to be gained by participating in a constructive leisure time activity. The event was well-organized and so well-staffed by these volunteers that students were able to discuss the flights of the model airplanes with the members of the club as they watched the aircraft dip, buzz and roll overhead. Members also shared information about technique, cost, design and the history of certain types of aircraft.
We would like to express our gratitude to the Hampton Roads Radio Control Club for their efforts in bringing to our students a memorable day and enrichment to the lessons that these students are learning in their classrooms.
