Adelaide ``Grandma'' DeYoung, journeyed on to be with the Lord on May 14, 1996, at her residence in Chesapeake. She was born on Feb. 13, 1911, and lived a full life surrounded by her family and many friends in Chesapeake.
Grandma loved people - all people - and her life was rich with doing things to be around them. In her younger days, she volunteered her time to the Red Cross and to Chesapeake General Hospital. Her favorite pastime throughout her later life was volunteering at Pinboys Bowling Centers to do whatever was needed to be done. She especially loved watching and helping the children and would tell everyone who approached her that she loved them. She loved the Lord and attended Kempsville Baptist Church.
Grandma is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Saundra and Keith White; and her son and daughter-in-law, Peter and Janice DeYoung. She is survived by her grandchildren, Kenney and Christin Long, Paul and Tracy Vogler, Keith Long, Brandon White; a great-granddaughter, Sara Long; and a great-grandson, Corey Vogler. She also left many close friends, too many to mention. She will be greatly missed.
Grandma's funeral service will be on Friday at 11 a.m. with Dr. Kelly Burris of Kempsville Baptist leading the services. The funeral will be conducted at Oman Funeral Home, Great Bridge, on Cedar Road in Chesapeake, and interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens next to her husband, Sylvester. There will be a visitation at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m. and the family will also be at the residence. ILLUSTRATION: Personal Photo
