A neighborhood forum on regional issues will be held at 7 p.m. today to discuss whether South Hampton Roads is attracting enough good-paying jobs.
The forum, hosted by Virginia Beach City Council member Louisa Strayhorn, will be in the library of Green Run High School, 1700 Dahlia Drive.
The jobs discussion also will touch on accessibility issues, such as transportation, as well as citizens' suggestions for potential solutions, Strayhorn said.
The discussion is open to the public, but Strayhorn said she is particularly interested in citizen participation from her Kempsville borough and nearby neighborhoods in Norfolk and Chesapeake.
Several months ago, some of Strayhorn's Kempsville constituents suggested that neighbors across city lines be invited as a way of exchanging ideas.
``When you start talking about regional problems, you must have all the voices, not just those of one city,'' Strayhorn said. ``Virginia Beach doesn't have these problems by itself. Citizens don't look at boundaries as city officials do.''
Strayhorn also said it was important to get citizen ideas on regional issues because ``many times some of the best solutions are from the people affected.''
