A man wanted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms on federal drug charges surrendered to police Thursday after briefly fleeing into and hiding in a home.
The identity of the man was not released. Norfolk police referred all questions about the case to the ATF. The agency had not returned phone calls by late Thursday.
Norfolk police spotted the wanted man at mid-afternoon in the 1000 block of Jernigan Ave. When they tried to arrest him, he fled and ran into a home in the 1100 block.
A police tactical team surrounded the home and began a search for the suspect. About 3:30 p.m., he surrendered peacefully.
Norfolk police said the man was wanted on federal drug warrants filed in New York. The exact charges were not known.
