Asa Hamilton Gray Jr., 74, died Wednesday May 15, 1996, in an Elizabeth City hospital.
Mr. Gray, a native of Waves, was a representative for the Pepsi Cola Company for 48 years. He was a charter member of the Cape Hatteras Masonic Lodge (NU)698, the Board of Directors for Cape Hatteras Electrical Corp. for 25 years, the N.C. Fisheries, Hatteras and Ocracoke Auxiliary, and a member of Fairhaven United Methodist Church. Mr. Gray was the son of the late Asa H. Gray Sr. and the late Esta Midgett Gray and the widower of the late Mary Elizabeth Midgett Gray.
Mr. Gray is survived by two sons, Rudy Gray and his wife, Bette, and Asa Gray III and his wife, Susan, all of Waves; three grandchildren, Asa H. Gray IV and Cassey Elizabeth Gray, both of Buxton, N.C., and Caitlyn Elizabeth Gray of Waves; an aunt, Alethia Meekins of Waves; and a niece, Dorothy Brannon of Greenville, N.C.
The funeral will be held at the Fairhaven United Methodist Church on Sunday at 2 p.m. with Rev. Berry Taylor officiating. Burial with Masonic rites by the Cape Hatteras Lodge (NU)698 will follow in the Gray Family Cemetery, Rodanthe. The family will receive friends at Twiford's Funeral Home, Manteo, Saturday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and at other times at the home of Rudy and Bette Gray in Waves. In addition to flowers the family suggests that contributions may be made to the Outer Banks Cancer Support Group, P.O. Box 3384, Kill Devil Hills, N.C., 27948, or the Asa H. Gray Jr. Memorial Fund, c/o Fairhaven United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 177, Rodanthe, N.C. 27968. Twiford's Colony Chapel, Manteo, is in charge of arrangements.
